The company behind Ranger Red’s Zoo and Conservation Park at Pinjarra, near Mandurah, went into liquidation last week.
Co-owner and director Bradley R. Holland, 48, said the cost of living crisis, after the Covid restrictions, had killed the zoo, which first opened in 2006.
‘It’s blowing because going to the zoo’s a luxury,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
‘A person has to decide – are they going to put food on the table or pay their rent?’
The business, previously known as Peel Zoo, made national news in 2012 when three Tasmanian devils escaped, sparking a public appeal to find the carnivorous marsupials known for their bite.
Redz Zoo Pty Ltd, the company behind the private zoo, was unable to service debts and owed creditors $300,000.
Liquidators Jimmy Trpcevski and Greg Prout, from WA Insolvency Solutions, told Daily Mail Australia the zoo’s parent company stopped trading on June 18, when it was placed into voluntary administration, before it went into liquidation on July 9.
